The Domestic Violence Protection Act was promulgated in 2008 for the purpose of preserving family ties and minimizing the impact of criminal acts in cases of violence among family members, and also with a view to maintaining confidentiality and imposing alternative penalties, as well as precautionary measures to ensure that the victim or other family members are not at risk and measures to protect the informant.
